About The Show

Ireland's Oldest Agricultural Show - Founded in 1826

Mare and Foal Championship Returns.

The Iverk Show which will be celebrating its 189th birthday this year is pleased to announce that the All Ireland Broodmare and Foal Team Championship final with qualifiers are returning to the show this year. After an absence of a couple of years this is a welcome return for one of the most popular championships of the season.

The aim of the championship is to identify good quality broodmares that are breeding quality foals that will have a future in the sport horse industry. The mare and foal will be judged as a unit.

In a hugely exciting development ‘Investec Wealth and Investment’ have come on board for the first time and are sponsoring the competition to the value of €4300 with a first prize of €1,000. A new special prize of €100 will be awarded to the highest placed six year old mare and under.

Making its second appearance at the show will be the All Ireland Carriage Driving Championship final. Last year carriage driving was introduced for the first. With ideal ground and layout facilities the carriages looked fantastic and were very popular with visitors. The championship is sponsored by Quinn’s of Baltinglass.

The show jumping Grand Prix will have a new sponsor this year with Irish Life taking the lead title and a prize fund of €2,000.

Also returning is the Aldi, ABP Cahir and the Irish Angus Cattle Society’s bull calf championships with a prize fund of €17,500 and ancillary Angus classes with prizes valued at €3000

With around 20,000 visitors annually the show is going from strength to strength and is now one of the leading shows in the country. Trade stand booking are already ahead of last year which is a great sign of confidence returning to business.

In order to help trade exhibitors and to facilitate an improved layout of the show all trade exhibitors must be booked in by Friday the 14th of August 2015 as space is limited.

The Most Appropriately Dressed Lady competition has got very exciting with the new first prize being one night dinner, bed and breakfast in the  luxurious 5* Merrion Hotel, Dublin and a €400 voucher from Irish designer Louise Kennedy adding to the glamour.

The very popular poultry marquee with over 350 feathered friends will be sponsored by Connolly’s Red Mills. Hopefully a new clutch of baby chicks which were so popular with children last year will be there

Important New Changes to Trade Stand Bookings

The Iverk Show is Irelands Oldest Agricultural Show and is now one of the country’s premier one day family events with attendance close to 20,000.

The success of the show over the past few years has put pressure on demand for trade spaces both indoor and outdoor.

With this in mind the show committee have decided that

All trade stands need to have booked in their stand and payment’s lodged in full with the Show a minimum of seven days prior to show day that is Friday 14th August 2015.

All up to date insurance details must accompany booking form.

These changes are designed to relieve pressure on the day and help the show committee plan a better layout of the show grounds to better enhance the trade stands experience and business.

Payment can be made by cheque (to be dated and received no later than 11th August), Bank Draft, Cash or Credit Card (051-644621)

We greatly appreciate your participation and cooperation and look forward to seeing you at this year’s show on the 22nd August 2015.

Welcome to the World of Flower Arranging

Here are some tips to help you improve your flower arranging. We look forward to seeing you exhibit in the classes at Iverk Show.
1. Always wet the floral foam (oasis) before using it to put your flowers and foliage in
2. Secure the wet foam into the container using tape
3. Pick your flowers and foliage the day before you are going to arrange them
4. Stand the cut flowers in water overnight but do not get the blooms wet
5. Submerge the fresh foliage in water for about two hours before using it to condition and clean it
6. Start your arrangement by getting an outline with the foliage
7. Cut the stems using a sharp flower scissors and remove the lower leaves from the stems
8. Finish your arrangement by adding in the flowers
9. Put the smaller flowers and buds to the top and outside of the design and the larger flowers in the centre and down low
10. Enjoy arranging – it is a whole new wonderful world

Don’t forget the show is on Saturday the 23rd August.
Make sure you come early so you will have plenty of time to put your exhibit in place

Good luck

IVERK SHOW – A continuing successful show

Saturday's Iverk Show (24 August, 2013) was an outstanding success with a major increase in attendance, plus a big increase in the numbers of Trade Stands. Quality was the main feature in all Sections of the Show. Matt Dempsey, former editor of the Farmers' Journal opened the Show.

One of the most popular sections of the day was the Cattle Section in particular, with the main spotlight on the Aldi/ABP €11,000 All Ireland Irish Angus Bull Calf Championship which was won by Matthew Goulding from Tralee, Co. Kerry. The Aldi Marquee was inundated with visitors from morning to evening with over 4,000 samples of food handed out to the public.

The Maid of Glanbia was won by Sean Murphy, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. The Dawn Meats Commercial Beef Heifers Class was won by Michael & Richard Barron, from Co. Kilkenny & the ABP, Ferrybank Beef Bullock Class was won by William R Gubbins from Co. Limerick. All Cattle Class results are available on www.iverkshow.ie

The Great Cherry Cake Competition was won by Bernie Meaney from Fethard, Co. Tipperary but there was controversy when there was an issue over the size of the Cherries used in the winning entry.

The judges of the Most Appropriately Dressed Lady had many entries but one lady came out the overall winner & she was Sarah Cass from Gowran.

The Iverk Show Gathering proved to be a phenomenal success with visitor's travelling from countries such as England, America, Wales, Germany, New Zealand, France, Sri Lanka & Norway.

The Iverk Show Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Walter Walsh, would like to thank everybody for their help & co-operation in making the Show the success that it was.

The Iverk Show Gathering

This year’s Show, which takes place on Saturday the 24th of August at the Show Grounds in Piltown, will incorporate the Gathering in its schedule, to encourage our emigrants to come back to Piltown for a few days & see how much the area has changed & developed since they left for foreign lands. Invitations have been sent to many & the Committee have drawn up numerous things for people to see & do & hopefully they will give the attendance at the Show a major boost.

As usual the Committee have drawn up a huge number of events in all Sections of the Show Grounds with 45 Cattle Classes & 50 Horse Classes providing the main events of the day. 200 Trade Stands plus the Dog Show, Sheep, a Vintage Display, The Most Appropriately Dressed Lady & The Bonny Baby Competition all add up to help fill the Grounds.

As usual the Great Cherry Cake Competition heads the list in the Jams, Cakes & Fruit Sections & once again the aim is to achieve 100 entries in the Cherry Cake Class. The Garden & Family Area plus the Poultry Marquee are all centred around the Plaza area & they are all very near the 4 Show Jumping Arenas.

New to the Show this year is the biggest Beef Class in Ireland with a Prize Fund of €11,000. This takes place in Ring 4 at approximately 2.00pm. This Competition is sponsored by Aldi, ABP & Irish Angus, this is an opportunity for the Spectators to see for themselves the top quality animals that provides them with the meat they buy from their Butchers & Supermarkets.

Dawn Meats are having a display of live Cattle for the public to judge & will be speaking throughout the day about this.

The Crafts Section for Adults & School Children is in the usual place, central to everything & many other attractions, all help to keep you busy as you stroll around the Grounds which have roadways in all different areas for easy access.

VIP for the day is Matt Dempsey, former editor of the Farmers Journal. Matt is looking forward to his day in Piltown. Matt will see the effort of this local Show Committee carrying on a tradition established in 1826 by Lord Bessborough of Bessborough House & now home to Kildalton College, to form the first Agricultural Show in Ireland. Glanbia will have serious presence at the Show including Siobhan Talbot, the new incoming CEO.

Car parking is very convenient to the Grounds & free & all is needed is Iverk’s usual sunny day for all our visitors to come to Piltown & enjoy yourself & meet some old & some new friends.

We are still open for entries in all Sections. Early entries would be appreciated so you can have your entry in the Show Catalogue. For further information please contact Sara Conlon on 051-644621. Entries can also be made online by clicking here

The Iverk Show Homecoming

Is there a four or even five generation family locally? We want to know so as we can reward them at Iverk 2013. Please do let us know especially if some are coming home from abroad.

The number of people coming home for the Iverk Show 2013 is increasing. We are aware of a number of families from the Barony who have loved ones returning for the Iverk Show Homecoming. We want to hear of more so please let us know if some of your family are coming home. ‘The Iverk Show Homecoming’is our way of doing ‘our bit’ for our country.

The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a Government initiative to increase the number of tourist coming into the country in 2013 and is being promoted through Bord Failte. We want everyone who is connected to the Iverk show in any way to invite family and friends to come home for the 2013 show. As well as the ‘Iverk Generation’ game we want to know who are the most recent and the oldest emigrant. We will have a special ‘Historical Centre’ displaying old photographs and memorabilia. If you have any let us know. There are now about 12 weeks left before the Iverk Show on the 24th August. Plans for this year’s event are well on the way and the prize schedule will be available shortly. There will be a couple of new and exciting classes this year.

The Irish Angus Championship for calves born from 1st September to the 31st December 2012 will be the richest cattle class in Europe with a prize fund of €11,000. The Agility Dog competition is also a first for Iverk. This is a fun event and is open to all dogs – big or small, old or young from family pets to working dogs. We want everyone to give it a try and have fun. So if you have not yet invited your family or friends home we encourage you do so immediately.
